If there’s one thing that’s annoying its waiting for Flash to load up on a flickr page just so I see a picture of someone’s cat. It also gets a little boggy when I try loading up more than one instance of Flickr.
Well this fine human being name Neil used Firefox, Greasemonkey and AJAX to [rip out those annoying flash files and replace them will full functional images and annotations using only Javascript and HTML].
This is a hack that works in just one browser, Firefox. Developing cross-platform DHTML is much harder and more painful. Flash has a lot of advantages over DHTML; it’s truly cross-platform, and can do much more special effects. If that works for Flickr, more power to them.
I tested it out and it works as advertised, I’m very impressed!
