One of the developers on the Wordpress team got inspired by my idea and implemented it in a more thoughtout way by using an XML parser to extract the data. This made the OPML importer able to work across all aggregators and the code a lot more pretty.
All in all I think its pretty darn neat to see my idea implemented in a real project that lots of people will be using :) I’ve actually got some ideas to make the importer better (such as allowing the user to upload the file if they’ve made updates and for the Wordpress code to disregard duplicates and only add the new links), however, all of that is on hold for a few weeks while I’m doing some contract work :o
