A while back when the campaign was still rolling strong, I’d made a Google Form and enlisted people that me and Jacqui knew on Facebook and Twitter to give us recommendations of things to do to bring my life back to normality.
There were tons of great ideas in there! I’ve taken the submissions and picked the best ones and put them here:
- Go to Ravinia
- Go to Lake Geneva
- Go on an Architectural Tour
- Hot Air Balooning, one, two
- Glassblowing
- Learn how to play an instrument
- Take a train to Milwaukee: “Cheap hotel rooms. Third ward shopping, bike the lake. MAM. Bolzano charcuterie tour. Brewery tour + fish fry at Lakefront on Friday nights w/ live polka. Drinks at bar at top of Pfister Hotel or Zen Den. Cubanitas.”
- Visit Chicago’s Art Museums
- Take dance classes at Joel Hall
- Do more Yoga
- Redesign your workspace
- SpaceTime floatation tanks
- Work at a soup kitchen
- Go see a musical or play
- Go on long bike rides
- Go camping
- Go to Galena, IL: “It is stunningly beautiful and one of the only areas of Illinois that is not flat. :) Rent a little place on Airbnb; the area is known for its bed-and-breakfasts. It’s quiet out there and will help you settle into a slower rhythm again.”
- Door County, Wisconsin
- Get bee bim bop from the Evanston Grill: “It’s located at 1047 Chicago Avenue and is open only through early afternoon on Saturdays. The diner is owned by an elderly Korean couple. They’re sweet and a little strange, but the BBB is great.”
- Transport thyself to Andersonville and have Algerian crepes at Ikosium Kafé: “They’re amazingly delicious. Make sure you get the vegetable soup – we go there specifically for it – and some of the Algerian mint tea and/or coffee. It’s strong as hell and delicious black. Their cafe au lait is great, too.”
- Come to Andersonville for a host of other amazing food: “Big Jones (Southern-style fancy fusion), La Fonda (authentic Colombian that my husband and in-laws LOVE), Jin Ju (contemporary Korean), and a handful of others that are newly opened on Clark.”
- Spend a day on the beach at Indiana Dunes.
This list is a great start! What else is great to do? Thanks to everyone who submitted their stuff! Mari Huertas submitted a bunch of the Andersonville items, but the rest were anonymous! :)
