It’s going to be short today.
The situation is still developing rapidly. I took a long walk in Central Park on Saturday and noticed a lot of people out exercising and socializing, but not very many tourists.
On a later walk from the Upper West Side to the Lower East Side Saturday night, we experienced much fewer people on the street, but many bars and restaurants were still packed with patrons.
The virus is currently infecting the following countries the fastest. The score below are the number of new infections per million citizens (NIPMC):

The CDC says that “83 state and local public health labs in 50 states are offering testing.” The Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Guam are not yet testing.
Right now public health laboratories are kicking into full gear and swamping the CDC’s ability to test.
Currently there have been 25,721 tests administered in the United States. 3,173 of those came back positive and 22,548 were negative. Twelve percent of those being tested are actually infected. There are 2,242 tests currently pending.
City officials briefed diplomats who are currently in the city on COVID-19. Everyone in New York should operate under the assumption that they have been exposed to COVID-19 at this point:
During the Saturday afternoon briefing, New York City medical officials emphasized that New York is “in the mitigation phase of the outbreak,” according to the read-out. “This means that all individuals should assume that they have had some contact with the virus and practice maximum-possible social distancing; most cases will be mild and medical care should only be sought in urgent, worsening, or vulnerable cases.”
Governor Cuomo says NYC schools should shutdown and asked Trump for military support to help build medical centers:
Mr. Cuomo said that the Corps could “leverage its expertise, equipment and people power to retrofit and equip existing facilities — like military bases or college dormitories — to serve as temporary medical centers.”
Pressure is also mounting for the city to shutdown its bars and restaurants. Illinois will be shutting down all restaurants & bars to in-person dining starting Monday.
The CDC is now recommending that schools stay closed for 8 weeks or longer to fully control the spread of the virus.
